David Beckham Still Not Used to Seeing His Underwear Billboards

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Models,

David BeckhamDavid Beckham's mum calls him up when she sees billboards of him in his underwear.

The retired soccer star - who recently launched a new swimwear range for H&M - still isn't used to seeing himself fronting brand campaigns in next to nothing and neither is his mother, Sandra.

When asked about whether he gets used to seeing himself on giant billboards, he told ShortList magazine, "I don't think so. Especially not when I've got my mum calling me up saying, 'I've just seen another huge billboard of you in London - just you, in your underwear.'"

Although at first David - who has children Brooklyn, 15, Romeo, 11, Cruz, nine, and Harper, two, with wife Victoria - was embarrassed by the prospect of allowing the world to see him half-naked, he has grown used to it, but he was left red faced in New Jersey during the Super Bowl where there were millions of posters of himself all over the city: "But it is what it is. At first I was like, 'Oh my God I'm sat there in my underwear and everyone around the world can see it.' This year at the Super Bowl it was ridiculous. I've never seen so many billboards of myself in one city. Every corner I turned, every street, I was there, so it was verging on embarrassing after a while."

H&M's Balenciaga knock-off Kristen Stewart in Balenciaga

Looks like H&M is taking cues from Forever 21 these days.

The Swedish-based fashion retailer has raised some eyebrows in the fashion community due to their latest collection, The New Mix, resembling looks from Balenciaga, Celine, and Kenzo. The ad to the left above, for instance, features a white crop top from H&M's line which looks eerily similar to one from Balenciaga's Spring/Summer 2013 collection (seen previously on Kristen Stewart to the premiere of her film On the Road).

Items Du Jour: Rihanna on Vogue, Lana Del Rey for H&M

Miley Cyrus+ Angelina Jolie was photographed on her way to meeting Turkish leaders to discuss the crisis in Syria looking like she just walked off the runway. Or perhaps maybe she just borrowed the loose, flowing, ground-length gown from her latest film, Maleficent.

+ Elsewhere, Miley Cyrus was snapped up wearing a black crop top with a pair of pants that could easily have been her pajamas; however, she strangely seems to be pulling the look off. Perhaps this is the magical work of her new, daring 'do?

+ Avid Twitter poster Rihanna broke her own news that she'll be covering Vogue a second time; Annie Leibovitz is again set to photograph the singer for the fashion glossy.

+ H&M released a behind-the-scenes video of the upcoming Lana Del Rey campaign, which was shot as a music video of the singer covering "Blue Velvet." Of course, because no one wants to be all that original these days, it looks very much like the David Lynch film of the same name.

"She's shooting an H&M campaign in New York," a source said.

Earlier this year, luxury label Mulberry created a bag in her honor and she admits it was a dream come true: "I love the design, it's a perfect mix between old school Hollywood and contemporary style. It's an honor that such a classic and prestigious brand would name a bag after me."

"We wanted to design a gorgeous bag that reflected Lana Del Rey's style and beauty so we thought the bag should be simple and structured yet relevant for now and recognisable instantly as a classic Mulberry piece. We wanted it to be functional with an uptown twist as Lana is such a wonderful uptown girl herself; its shape implies structure yet it has gorgeous squidgeablity!" Mulberry creative director Emma Hill added.
