Gossip Girl Taught Ed Westwick About Fashion

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Editorials,

Ed WestwickEd Westwick thinks his fashion sense has improved since starring in .

The British actor, who plays Chuck Bass in the teen drama, admitted he has had to “step up his game” after learning about different looks and styles from various designers and industry experts.

“My fashion consciousness - and self consciousness - have definitely grown over the course of being on the show. All the exposure and all the experience I’ve had of different sides of the industry means I have a better knack of how to put things together. We’ve all been to fashion shows, we’ve worked with designers in different capacities, on fashion shoots. You learn about different looks and colors. I’ve definitely stepped up my game.”

The hunky star explained that his favorite look out of the recent shoots he has done would be an English country gentleman style that made him look as though he was “going shooting with Prince Charles.”

“My favorite one was by Band of Outsiders. It was a grey flannelly wool-type trouser, brown shoes - no socks, of course - white shirt, grey waistcoat. It was chic but smart-casual, great for late summer, early autumn. I’m going to have to go out and grab that one. Then, they wanted an English look so I wore this plaid jacket with dark shirt and pants. I looked like I was going shooting with Prince Charles.”

Jessica Szohr Wants Taylor Momsen’s Clothes

Taylor Momsen, Penn Badgley, and Jessica SzohrJessica Szohr wishes she could swap her style with —her character’s, that is.

The star - who plays Vanessa Abrams in the hit series - admits while she likes the clothes her character is given in the show, she would love to wear the “girly” pieces Taylor’s character Jenny gets to fashion.

“I personally think Jenny has the best wardrobe on the show - it’s kind of grungy, but girly, without being too put together.”

The brunette beauty - who has been dating her Gossip Girl co-star since 2008 - admitted while she thinks her character wears too many contrasting patterns and colors, she thinks all the girls in the show look “great.”

“Blair is too structured and perfect, Serena is always glammed up. Vanessa’s way too much with every color and pattern. It sounds like I’m being negative about them all, but I’m not - I think they all look great. But if I was going to go shopping for me, I’d head straight into Jenny’s closet.”

Quote of the Day: Cathy Horyn Says Couture is Dying

Chanel Couture 2010

“Like perpetually dieting designers, haute couture is definitely shrinking before our eyes. Oh, don’t be fooled by the giant lion at , which, depending on how you look at these things, is either an example of Karl Lagerfeld’s brilliant stagecraft or an advertisement for a new Disney restaurant chain. Most of the remaining half-dozen or so houses that show haute couture scaled down their presentations this week: a nip here, a tuck there and a PR man explaining in a hushed tone that the designer wanted to ‘return to couture’s roots.’... Unless you have been catching up on Gossip Girl reruns, national deficits and unemployment do not correlate with a couture dress that costs as much as a Harvard education. Couture is slipping off people’s radars faster than a U.F.O. “

Taylor Momsen at Warped Tour

Judging by the Spring/Summer 2010 runways, clear heels are certainly trending right now; however, star Taylor Momsen took it down to a whole level of trashy.

Performing with her band The Pretty Reckless, 16 year-old Momsen gives a run for her money in a skin-tight, short corset held down by some very adult garters. Despite her lingerie-heavy outfit, her clear platforms recently attracted quite a bit of attention, considering it has a slot for tips.

Tacky or a stylish sense of humor?

Hilary Duff Designed Femme With Essentials in Mind

Hilary Duff Femme for DKNYHilary Duff‘s new fashion line is full of wardrobe essentials.

The actress-turned-designer - whose label Femme for DKNY Jeans launched in autumn - says she drew inspiration from her own fashion must-haves when she was sketching her styles.

“I designed clothing that I feel are staples for my closet. Every girl needs a great leather jacket, and every girl needs a skinny pair of black jeans.”

While she loves her job, Hilary admits she finds it strange she is no longer able to visit shopping malls without being hounded by fans and photographers: “I walked into a mall one day and was mobbed by people. And I just remember feeling really different than everyone else. I felt really loved. But it was weird at the same time.”

The actress recently appeared on the hit show Gossip Girl, where she portrayed movie starlet Olivia Burke. The 22-year-old beauty was unsure whether to accept the part at first, fearing she would be too similar to her on-screen persona.

“I was a little hesitant. It was kind of close to home… then I realized, I would never say something that Olivia says like, ‘Oh, this is just for the cameras.’”
