Nicole Farhi feared death during attack

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News,

Nicole Farhi attackNicole Farhi thought she was going to die when she was mugged outside her home. The French fashion designer - who was choked until she was unconscious during the attack in London in April last year - made the admission yesterday as she gave evidence in the trial of one of the men accused of robbing her.

She said at London’s Wood Green Crown Court: “I walked quickly to my front door. Then I heard some footsteps. The footsteps were very fast and then one hand came onto my eyes and the other onto my throat. He squeezed and I fainted. My last thought was, how stupid to die in front of my house.”

The 62-year-old designer claims she woke up to find the men were taking her £8,000 wedding ring and trying to remove her Rolex watch. The watch had been Nicole’s father’s. When she heard the two men speaking her native French she begged to be allowed to keep the timepiece. She said: “I asked for my watch back because it had sentimental value. I was frightened, obviously. I said to them, ‘Don’t cut me with this knife,’ in French. I said, ‘Don’t cut me, don’t cut me.’ I started speaking louder and louder and they said, ‘Let’s go’, because I was speaking too loud.”

Hearing her speaking, Nicole’s husband Sir David Hare came to the door of their home. He followed the men and was able to note down the registration of the vehicle they used to escape. It is alleged brothers Matthew and Daniel Mykoo performed robberies together in wealthy areas of London between March and June last year. It is claimed Daniel would choke the pair’s victims from behind until they passed out while Matthew held a knife. Matthew would then steal jewellery and other valuables. Matthew, 27, has admitted two counts of robbery but pleaded not guilty to 16. Daniel has admitted 16 counts. The trial of Matthew continues.

Audrey Tautou has high praise for Coco Chanel

Audrey Tautou Coco ChanelAudrey Tautou is of the opinion that Coco Chanel gave women freedom. Tautou, the French actress who plays the legendary designer in new film Coco Avant Chanel, says the designer was a huge inspiration because she broke down barriers that had held back women before her. “She was the woman of the moment. She was very intelligent, strong and courageous. She wanted to be free and independent. At the time, nobody knew that could exist. She refused to let herself be closed off by social conventions and she was almost a rebel - she was almost a feminist ahead of time. In terms of fashion, she freed women.”

Audrey is also a huge fan of clothes because they are so elegant. “Chanel’s style is the style of simplicity. It’s very feminine and is the symbol of French elegance.”

Coco, who died in 1971 at the age of 87, was one of the most important figures in 20th century fashion. Her menswear-inspired designs, which were renowned for their expensive simplicity, are some of the most sought after clothes in the world.

Angela Missoni looking to launch clothing line for teen girls

Angela Missoni55-year-old designer Angela Missoni is looking to follow in the footsteps of her fashion counterparts and team up with a high street store to launch a new line of clothes aimed at teenage girls. According to Angela, “I would like to do something with H&M because I think it is a very powerful way to reach younger girls now.” Other H&M collaborators include Matthew Williamson, Comme des Garcons and Viktor and Rolf.

Angela Missoni also has no problem with models and actresses designing their own clothing collections, as long as they’re passionate about fashion. Making mention of Sienna Miller’s Twenty8Twelve label, Angela said: “These girls do pick up knowledge by being around fashion, so it doesn’t bother me if Sienna does her own range - she has a genuine passion for clothes, so it’s not just about her using her name.”

Other celebrities to have designed their own clothing lines for stores include Kate Moss, Madonna and Lily Allen.
