Rachel ZoeRachel Zoe has been added to the Council of Fashion Designers of America's board.

Mandy Moore Loved Her Custom-Made CFDA Dress

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,

Mandy MooreMandy Moore felt confident in her custom-made CFDA dress.

The A Walk To Remember star wore a cream Lela Rose gown to the CFDA Fashion Awards in New York on Monday and says it was a privilege to put it on.

"I was so taken by the short version of this dress on the runway, and was so excited that they custom-made me a long version for the event. I love the juxtaposition of the soft white draping and the hard edge of the metal-and pearl-encrusted shoulders! I'm all about a strong shoulder right now - it feels confident," Mandy, 28, told People.

Designer Lela approached Mandy about a collaboration in April, and the design was inspired by one of Lela's Spring 2012 looks. Lela, whose clients include Jessica Simpson and Selma Blair, commented, "Dressing Mandy is always a fun experience. Not only is she stunning but such a genuine and lovely person. The custom gown I made for her to wear, with its clean lines and bold embellishments, will so wonderfully complement both her inner and outer beauty."

LFW and NYFW Agree on Dates

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Shows, News,

Steven Kolb of the CFDADates for London and New York Fashion Weeks have changed in order to avoid a schedule conflict. NYFW will now take place from September 6 until September 13 this year while London will immediately follow from September 14 to September 18.

Moving LFW one week earlier than normal will help to avoid a clash with Milan Fashion Week which kicks off on September 19. "Both committees remain committed to finding a long term solution that would see a confirmed Fashion Season where brands and designer businesses in all four fashion capitals (New York, London, Milan and Paris), can plan for the long term and when exceptional circumstances arise there is dialogue and empathy to find a solution that works for all," said a statement from the British Fashion Council.

Steven Kolb of the Council of Fashion Designers of America added, "We've been back and forth on this. People are anxious and need to know the dates. There's no value for the cities to compete. In the spirit of working together, London and New York are in agreement that we will go in the earlier period, but with the hope that the four cities will come out of this confusion and work together to plan future show weeks. We need to begin to look at the fashion season not as individual fashion weeks, but very much as a global business."

Iman Wants More Collaborative Models

ImanIman thinks it’s shame models no longer work closely with designers.

The supermodel - who was named as this year’s Fashion Icon at last night’s Council of Fashion Designers of America () awards - wishes the beauties of today were able to have more input into what they wear, like she did.

“In my day it was, ‘Do you like that? Would you wear it that way?’  You could be your own person. And nobody walked the same way on the runway. Don’t get me wrong, there are great girls today. But they have lost that role, of collaborating with the designers. There is not that relationship anymore.”

The Somalian-born beauty - who is married to music legend David Bowie - also admitted it was very flattering to be given the award and said she can’t wait for hot young designer to now dress her: “The award came as a surprise but it does the ego good. I plan to take Alexander up on his offer to dress me now!”

Iman, 55, has had a diverse and wide-ranging fashion career, appearing as a high fashion model to designers including Calvin Klein and , and in 2007 she launched her own signature make-up line on the Home Shopping Network. She also works for a number of charities including the Children’s Defence Fund and Keep a Child Alive.

Sarah Jessica Parker at last night's CFDA awardsSarah Jessica Parker posthumously awarded the late at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) last night. The Sex and the City 2 actress gave a speech as she honored the British fashion designer, who committed suicide in February, with the Board of Directors Special Tribute Award.

“I don’t think one brief segment of the evening could really illustrate what he meant to the industry or to the people that worked with him or to his family - so it’s a very hard thing to try to be brief and substantive in a matter of two minutes. But I think his work speaks for him more than I could.”

A McQueen runway show then followed, which included a display of the designer’s fashion pieces, leaving some members of the audience in tears.
