She’s as sweet in person as she is on screen! Carey Mulligan has donated her BAFTAs dress to charity.
The 24 year-old actress wore the black and white Vionnet gown to the prestigious ceremony in February - where she was named Best Actress for her role in An Education - but has now given it to Oxfam, to help raise money for the charity’s women’s projects.
“I’m honored to be able to donate my BAFTA dress to support Oxfam’s work helping women living in extreme poverty across the world.”
The dress will be displayed in a temporary Oxfam shop in the basement of London department store Selfridges for a week from Friday, and will be auctioned off with a starting price of $65. Shoppers at the pop-up store will be helped by a group of high-profile women headed by singer Annie Lennox. Funds raised from the sale of the dress will go to Oxfam’s women’s projects across the world including Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Democratic Republic of Congo, West Africa and South Africa. The projects help support and protect vulnerable women by campaigning against violence, giving them the chance of an education and helping in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

It was only a matter of time before the ever-so-stylish Rachel Bilson delved into the jewelry world. What better way to start than with designing a diamond bracelet?
The 28-year-old actress created the jewelery to benefit the Diamond Empowerment Fund, a non-profit organization that supports education in Africa, and will donate a portion of sales revenue to the cause. Rachel was inspired to help after visiting Botswana and South Africa last month to learn about improvements made in the diamond mining industry there and wanted to do all she could to promote the cause.
The bracelet is made up of brown leather cords, with a gold charm framing a dainty round diamond. The accessory retails for $100, with $20 from the sale of each piece going to the Diamond Empowerment Fund to build student housing at the CIDA City Campus, a university in Johannesburg which is the country’s first to be virtually free. The jewelery is being sold exclusively through InStyle.com.
This is not Rachel’s first venture into design - she also has her own clothing range Edie Rose, but admits she struggles with some of the processes: “I can’t draw at all, so I won’t be doing any sketches, but I am learning to sew. I think it’s important to know more about the whole process of making clothes.”
