David Beckham Still Not Used to Seeing His Underwear Billboards

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Models,

David BeckhamDavid Beckham's mum calls him up when she sees billboards of him in his underwear.

The retired soccer star - who recently launched a new swimwear range for H&M - still isn't used to seeing himself fronting brand campaigns in next to nothing and neither is his mother, Sandra.

When asked about whether he gets used to seeing himself on giant billboards, he told ShortList magazine, "I don't think so. Especially not when I've got my mum calling me up saying, 'I've just seen another huge billboard of you in London - just you, in your underwear.'"

Although at first David - who has children Brooklyn, 15, Romeo, 11, Cruz, nine, and Harper, two, with wife Victoria - was embarrassed by the prospect of allowing the world to see him half-naked, he has grown used to it, but he was left red faced in New Jersey during the Super Bowl where there were millions of posters of himself all over the city: "But it is what it is. At first I was like, 'Oh my God I'm sat there in my underwear and everyone around the world can see it.' This year at the Super Bowl it was ridiculous. I've never seen so many billboards of myself in one city. Every corner I turned, every street, I was there, so it was verging on embarrassing after a while."

David Beckham Named Most Stylish Man of the Year

David BeckhamDavid Beckham was named Most Stylish Man at the annual German GQ Men of the Year Awards last night.

The retired soccer pro looked dapper in a black suit as he accepted the fashionable honor at a ceremony in Berlin, Germany, where he was praised for his ever-evolving style. Jose Redondo Vega, editor of GQ Germany, told the crowd, "Like no other athlete, David Beckham represents style and fashion influence. With his trendsetting and sometimes daring appearances he has created a bridge between the world of design, models, and photographers, and the world of world class sports, and brought glamour back to a male sport."

The 38-year-old hunk picked up his accolade just two days after his wife Victoria Beckham, 39, scooped the Special Contribution to British Fashion award at the annual Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards in London. The esteemed fashion designer was joined on the red carpet by her and David's eldest son, Brooklyn, 14.

David and Victoria - who also have sons Romeo, 11, Cruz, eight, and two-year-old daughter Harper - are known for their impeccable fashion taste. While Victoria has won acclaim for her eponymous fashion label, David has his own best-selling bodywear line for H&M.

Harper with her father David BeckhamDavid Beckham loves "dressing up" his daughter.

The 38-year-old soccer star - who recently announced his plans to retire from the sport - is smitten with his and wife Victoria's 22-month-old girl Harper and loves nothing more than treating her to a cute new outfit which makes her stand out from other celeb tots.

"Victoria has always dressed Harper beautifully, but lately it's been David who's taken the reins. David tends to pick her bright clothes, whereas Victoria is a fan of a more conservative, neutral palette. He adores doting on her and dressing her up," a source said. David - who also has sons Cruz, eight, Romeo, 10, and 14-year-old Brooklyn with the fashion designer - is so dedicated to styling his only daughter in fashionable pieces that he has a selection of clothes for her in his room at Le Bristol hotel in France, where he stays during his training with French team Paris Saint-German.

"He's always trying to pick up cool things for her to wear," the insider added.

Victoria Beckham Planning New York Move?

David and Victoria BeckhamVictoria and David Beckham are reportedly planning to move to New York City.

The couple are currently settled in Los Angeles with their children - Brooklyn, 13, Romeo, 10, seven-year-old Cruz, and 15-month-old daughter Harper - but are considering relocating to the Big Apple so Victoria can concentrate on her fashion line.

"Everything is up for discussion at the moment. David may well choose to stay at his team LA Galaxy, or he may leave and retire from football. There are big conversations to be had. Victoria is keen to move to New York to set up her business there and open her first store. She looked at a school while she was there. There are also business opportunities for David, too," a source told Grazia.

Victoria and David are also considering a move to London, but worry that uprooting their children across the Atlantic might be too dramatic and would spell the end of David's soccer career.

It will be a collector's issue," said editor-in-chief Lorraine Candy, commenting on the development.

Stella McCartney Nervous About Designing for Men

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers,

Stella McCartneyStella McCartney was nervous about designing for men for Team GB's Olympics kit.

Stella has been tasked with creating the Adidas sportswear for the British team for the London 2012 Olympics and the womenswear designer admitted she worried about how to create a strong, masculine look for the male athletes.

"It's the first time I've really designed for men and I've been really cautious of keeping them feeling masculine; feeling strong; feeling like they're really representing the nation."

Stella was also determined to make sure the female athletes didn't feel left out and she wanted to incorporate "feminine elements" into the kit: "In the history of these events, it's all been very masculine and the girls have been slightly overlooked in the design process. They get the exact same strip as the guys and it's been important to me to bring in the feminine elements. This is not about me. This is about the athletes and Team GB. I didn't want to put a big fashion statement on it."

Stella McCartney Inspired by Union Jack

Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney changed the colors of the Union Jack for Team Great Britain's Olympics kit to ensure the athletes feel "identifiable."

The fashion designer wanted to respect the symbol's "beauty" while using it as the main focus on the Adidas sportswear for the London 2012 Olympics, but she amended the color scheme to avoid making the sign feel "overused" in the lead up to the spectacle: "I was also aware of the fact that it's something that might be overused in the build-up to the Olympics, in taxis, on cushions and mugs, so I wanted to do something different with it - but that was still respectful of its beauty. Actually, the colors of the Union Jack are similar to a lot of other flags and the athletes really wanted to feel identifiable as Team GB, so I just used different colors to say the same thing."
