The Sex and the City 2 actress gave a speech as she honored the British fashion designer, who committed suicide in February, with the Board of Directors Special Tribute Award.

“I don’t think one brief segment of the evening could really illustrate what he meant to the industry or to the people that worked with him or to his family - so it’s a very hard thing to try to be brief and substantive in a matter of two minutes. But I think his work speaks for him more than I could.”

A McQueen runway show then followed, which included a display of the designer’s fashion pieces, leaving some members of the audience in tears.

Commenting on his death at the time, Sarah Jessica said some of the designer’s work was “jaw-dropping”:

Tyra Pays Tribute to Alexander McQueen

Tyra Banks paying tribute to McQueen

Tyra Banks took time out of her schedule to pay homage to the late Alexander McQueen by way of her own photo shoot.

“I wanted to do a photo shoot decked out in H2T McQueen. McQueen was considered royalty in the fashion community. I feel like a queen whenever I wear his clothes (especially the stunning blue dress I wore for this shoot)!... I would like to think that he would have loved these photos.”

Although she looks fabulous, I can’t say that it looks like she tried much, considering it looks more like a look book than a tribute photo shoot for a man who designed such dramatic, gorgeous creations. Check out the photos after the jump and decide for yourself. If not for Tyra, check out Andre Leon Talley’s guest appearance as her king!

Final Alexander McQueen Collection Unveiled

Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2010

‘s last-ever collection has been shown in Paris. The low-key showcase of the designer’s final work was shown to a small group of people and received a positive reception from the assembled journalists and employees.

The show, which was originally intended to take place in the Conciergerie, a former prison, was backed by the sepulchral 17th-century choral music Alexander had listened to while creating the collection, which consisted of high-necked, close-fitting satin dresses accessorized with high-heeled carved gold shoes and thigh-high boots.

Photographers Prohibited Allowed at McQueen Memorial

Alexander McQueen Spring 2010

Despite what Kanye West said about the late Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2010 collection, it appears as if he did complete most of his Fall 2010 line.

Originally set to premiere at Paris Fashion Week, the label has instead opted to showcase McQueen’s last collection in a memorial setting on March 9th and 10th. Very much unlike the live-stream of his collection, photographers will not be permitted at the presentation. Photos of the pieces are (thankfully!) due to be released to the media.
