Nick Knight Joins Naomi Campbell in Fighting Industry Racism

Nick Knight photograph of Naomi CampbellNick Knight thinks that the fashion industry is racist.

The photographer claims the profession is geared towards white models and is unhappy that some industry professionals are reluctant to work with black models.

“I’ve always I’ve always found the fashion industry to be extremely racist, to the point that I don’t know how they get away with it. When I first started I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, ‘We can’t have a black model—they’re not aspirational.’ You can’t say that!”

Supermodel Naomi Campbell agrees with Nick, previously claiming she wasn’t given as much work as other models because of her skin color.

Speaking about Naomi’s anger, Nick said, “Talk to Naomi and she’s f***ing incandescent with rage that she’s not on the cover of Vogue. She puts it down to racism.”

Naomi, who has been on the cover of British Vogue eight times, has previously spoken about racism in the fashion industry.

“The only time they care about black models is in February because it is Black History Month. Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington would go to big designers and say, ‘If you don’t pick Naomi to be in your show, then I don’t want to be in it.’ That’s how I got Prada and Helmut Lang. The only reason I got the cover of French Vogue was because Yves Saint Laurent called up and told them he’d pull his ads if they didn’t. So of course I got the cover,” Campbell revealed.
