Stat’s All Folks: “Manute Bol Is One Tall Guy”

Allen IversonStat’s All Folks will be a week-to-week stock market look at the standard cumulative categories – points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals, and blocks.  I’ll be calling out the “bulls” and “bears” in each category, in order to help you assess your portfolio of players on your fantasy basketball team(s) and whether you should sell, hold, and/or diversify your assets.

Statistics are through November 23nd – 29th.

POINTS

BULLISH

Allen Iverson, PG, Philadelphia 76ers
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 3 G; 40.7 PPG; 44.2 FG%; 90.2 FT%

How does Iverson come back from sitting out two games because of injury?  Here’s the “answer” – AI drops 46 points on the Chicago Bulls in a 123-108 Sixers win his first game back.  The next night against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Iverson scores 31 points, which made many wonder if he was still suffering from injury because he only scored 31 points (sarcasm fully intended).  However, AI dispelled any worries about his scoring deficiencies by hanging 45 points on the Miami Heat the following game.  Iverson is just plain getting sick with it!

Dime Day: The Glass is Half-Empty

Shawn Marion I went to dinner with two friends a couple of weeks ago. As usual, the conversation gravitated towards the entertainment industry. One of them said he gave The Departed a thumbs down because it was “too predictable” and then proceeded to say he was shocked at the ending. He then laughed every time as we recalled some of the funny lines in the movie. The other friend was asked what his “single of the year” was, a question that stumped the rest of us. He noted that he really liked the new Keane album so he would probably choose a song on there, and then remarked that he hated the single they actually released when I began to sing it. Maybe he just didn’t like my singing.

In the world of e-revenge, people can pan everything from a movie to a restaurant to a doctor faster than ever before. The natural response is to focus on the negative. Since Ron has the injury news on lock-down, Zack is keeping track of the rooks, Scott is combing through the waiver wire for all our benefit, and Dennis is busy conquering the fantasy sports world, today Dime Day looks at Yahoo’s top ranked players pre-season and looks at their production thus far using the critical eye. Does the Matrix get the love in the end?

3-2-1 Impact: Shaun Livingston, Chris Paul, Randy Foye

Shaun Livingston
It is time again to take a look at the young stars of the NBA and their fantasy potential. Here we pit a frosh against a sophomore and a junior. Why no senior, you ask? The class of 2003 has already distinguished itself: Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, etc. It seems unfair to pit Flash against a rookie. Staying on point, 3-2-1 Impact features three players who hold down the point guard position.

Dropping Dimes’ Experts Roto League: Richard Christ’s Team

Description

Fantasy Sports R Us was also nice enough to take part in our experts’ roto league. Thanks to Richard Christ for reppin’ them. They can explain what they are about better than I can, so here is what I found on their site…

“FSRU is the #1 most hated fantasy leagues site on the net. Why? Because we have the highest payouts, we are the fastest growing, and damn it we are just flat out the best. Period.”

Check them out. In the meantime, peep what they did at our draft. For full draft results, click here.

Dropping Dimes Draft Blog: Round 5, Pick 11

Raymond FeltonRound 5, Pick 10: Raymond Felton, PG, Charlotte Bobcats

A day before training camp begins for the Charlotte Bobcats, Felton predicted that the team would make the postseason.  Yes, it’s okay if you’re laughing, but for those of you who are, note that Felton says that the Bobcats are going to get that respect.  That gusto and confidence is an intangible you like to hear about from a player on your fantasy basketball team, which is why I’m going with Felton here.  He’s a proven winner, winning an NCAA Championship while at North Carolina and he developed very well as the season progressed, earning his fifth overall draft position amongst a great class of point guards, such as the Utah Jazz’s Deron Williams and the New Orleans Hornets’ Chris Paul, who eventually won the Rookie of the Year award.  However, what if I told you that Felton wasn’t so far off from Paul, overall, when Felton finally started for the Bobcats and got regular burn on the floor?

Don’t laugh because even if Felton’s prediction for his real team doesn’t come true, if you pay attention, it can happen for your team.

Dropping Dimes Draft Blog: Round 4, Pick 2

Kirk Hinrich can dunk?Round 4, Pick 2: Kirk Hinrich, PG/SG, Chicago Bulls

Just about everyone remembers the top five of the 2003 NBA Draft:
1) LeBron James - The kid who became a man and found witnesses to his greatness almost immediately.
2) Darko Milicic - The other kid whose potential never surfaced until he found some Magic.
3) Carmelo Anthony - If LeBron has the potential to be one of the best ever and Wade has his ring, where will Melo fit in when all is said and done?
4) Chris Bosh - Smooth big man makes the game look easy and is reppin’ Canada to the fullest.
5) Dwyane Wade - The first to get a ring that showed just how good he could be during an amazing Finals run.

But what about those players outside this sphere of current and future greatness?  I bet most would forget that Chris Kaman was taken right after Wade at sixth overall.  It took him a little longer to break out, but he eventually did last season.  And at the seventh pick?  Well, he played well enough to join four of the top five picks (James, Anthony, Bosh, and Wade) on the All Rookie first team and finished in the top eight in total assists and assists per game average.  Of course, all you have to do is look at the picture to know who I’m talking about - Zydrunas Ilgauskas.  Just kidding.

This is all about Kirk Hinrich, his world, and the fact that we’re all squirrels in it just trying to get a nut.
