Rookie Radar 11.29.06

Shelden WilliamsNo cute talk this week, let’s get right down to it.
1. Adam Morrison (Steady)

What more can be said?  Morrison has had an impressive rookie campaign thus far.  Sure, he’s only averaging 3 boards and 2 assists a game, but he’s been logging over 40 minutes consistently lately, and he’s put in 20 points 4 of the last 7 games.  As Borat would say, “Great success!”

2. Jorge Garbajosa (Steady)

A far-behind second place, but he has been pretty solid.  He had a disappointing game on the 22nd, scoring just 4 points while grabbing 6 rebounds.  Being the Garbage Man that he is, though, he followed that up with a big 15 point, 12 board game on Friday the 24th at Atlanta and 13 points and 6 rebounds the next game.  I really like him as a starter.  He should definitely be getting consideration, if not already on a roster, in a standard 12-team league.
3. Shelden Williams (Up)

A close #3 here.  Williams has been extremely impressive in his last few games.  He had a huge 20 point, 13 rebound game at Nazr Mohammed and the Pistons’ expense on the 22nd.  After a fairly weak 6 point, 5 rebound effort against Toronto, he came back the next game and netted 16 points and 8 rebounds at Orlando.  He can be inconsistent at times, but he too definitely deserves a look in a standard league.
4. LaMarcus Aldridge (Down)

Aldridge has had a decent, but unspectacular week.  He had 10 points and 8 boards Wednesday the 22nd, and followed that up with a bad game at the Kings on the 25th, getting just 6 points, and 3 boards.  He hurt his lip Sunday, and played only 3 minutes in that game, but he should be fine going forward.  I don’t think he deserves this ranking… but quite frankly, I don’t think anyone else does either.
5. Craig Smith (Steady)

Smith is a streaky player, who really has no special talent or any one category that he specifically helps you out in.  He does put up a few points here, a few rebounds there, and has a good FG%.  He had 12 points and 5 boards on the 25th, and the day before dropped 6 points and 10 boards on the Hornets.  He’s a solid guy to have taking up a bench role on your team in a deep league.
Honorable Mentions:

Brandon Roy - He should be coming back in a week or two, and we’ll see how he does then.  For now, though, he’s just an honorable mention.
Marcus Williams - He’s scored 27 and 14 points respectively in his last two games, but the fact that he only played 18 and 19 minutes in the games worries me.  If he got more minutes, he would be a great fantasy option, but for now he probably shouldn’t be on anyone’s roster.
Rudy Gay - He had a bad week, but he hasn’t fallen completely off the face of the Earth.  I look for him to rebound this week, and get back on the above list.
Andrea Bargnani - The #1 pick has had a big last 4 games.  He’s played over 23 minutes in all 4, and averaged 11.5 points in that time.  I don’t expect him to do too much this year, but 10 points and 3-4 boards a game is far from out of the question.
