Dropping Dimes on the Daily: March 12, 2007

Adonal Foyle and Brandon RoyDropping Dimes On The Daily is all about the team looking at the previous night’s performances and mentioning those that did pretty goodly and those that did pretty badly.  Goodly is a word, right?  Anyway, this will be a quick look around the league, so don’t expect a ton of text, just some daily fantasy basketball goodness!!!  Please note that this is the fantasy basketball section of ElevationMag.com’s Daily Top Picks. Holy point guards, Batman!

If you were able to pull yourself away from NCAA championship weekend you likely caught an NBA contest that was being dominated by a point guard one way or another.

Though he didn’t put up as many points as some of his colleagues, Chauncey Billups lit up the fantasy world yesterday with 17 points, 12 dimes, six boards, four steals, three treys and a block.  Typically, Billups will do some damage to your field goal percentage, but not so much yesterday as he went 6-12 from the floor.  Very solid day by the Pistons play-caller.

TJ Ford also did well from the field, hitting 11 of his 15 shots en route to a 25 point evening.  On top of his scoring efforts, Ford dished 13 assists, snagged four boards and ripped three rocks.

Following suit, Mike Bibby dropped 34 points on five long balls and 12-20 shooting, which is a nice change from his recent struggles.  For good measure, Bibby added two rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Not to be outdone by too many guards, Gilbert Arenas put in 33 points of his own.  While his field goal percentage wasn’t the best (7-16), his 16-17 from the line was enough bring up the worst of free throw percentages.  Arenas also pulled down four rebounds, dropped six assists, hit three bombs, and added in a steal and a block.

Allen Iverson’s 24 points, six boards, seven assists and four steals was a very solid line…but he wasn’t swatting shots like Areans and Billups!  C’mon AI, what gives?

A few big men like Yao Ming (37 points, seven boards, four blocks) and Chris Bosh (27 points, 10 boards, three assists, three steals, two blocks) also represented, but it was nothing compared to the output by the point guards.

Surprise fantasy line of the day goes to Linas Kleiza.  Not the guy with the blanket from the Peanuts comics, but the wing man for the Denver Nuggets.  He went off for 24 points on 8-11 shooting with four long-balls and 4-4 from the line.  The fun didn’t stop with the scoring as Kleiza also pulled down eight boards.  I’m not sure I’d count on this happening often, but it was a nice bonus if you already had him in there.

Catch you on the rebound…
