Dropping Dimes on the Daily - 11.29.07

On a night that pretty much lacked spectacular lines, there were a few that still stood out.  No triple-doubles today folks.  LeBron James got hurt.  That’s why.

So did Chris Bosh, who deserves a mention, as he has been heating up nicely of late.  Still, there was a surprise scorer, dime-disher, and more than a few rebounders, on a heavy slate of Wednesday NBA action.

The Fig Cap: You know, this has nothing to do with today’s DDOTD.  Except that when I Googled LeBron, this is what I got.

Let’s go category-by-category and start things off with assists.

In Philly, Deron Williams finished with 15 points and 15 dimes in a close game.  Of course, I promised a surprise, and D-Will is far from that.  So who is this mystery man?  Carlos Arroyo, who had 14 in just 24 minutes.  I’d call that production.

We’ll save our big scorer for later, as I’m thinking he belongs as the “line of the night” and move on to rebounds.  I’ll take Jeff Foster for 17 boards.  How about Al Jefferson with 14 against Dirk and Co.?  Maybe Yao with 13 in a big win over Phoenix?  Kurt Thomas also had 14 for Seattle in his new role as starter.  I sense immediate pickup.  But the high of the night came from Brad Miller, who had 18 rebounds and 3 blocks, although on just 1-9 shooting.  His opponent, Andris Biedrins, pulled down 13 boards and rejected 4 shots.

Now for some all-around great lines.  Andre Igoudala continued his hot streak with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 dimes on good shooting, but of course had to add his typical 5 turnovers.  Two guys flirted with triple-doubles on this LeBron-less night, Tony Parker (29-8-11) and Brandon Roy (10-10-8).  Going up against Roy, Jamaal Tinsley had 15 with 10 assists, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals.

Marko Jaric is another guy to keep an eye on, as he finished with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists in 40 minutes.  Also in that game, Dirk Nowitzki poured in 27 with 11 boards.  In the Rockets third consecutive win, Tracy McGrady complemented Yao’s great night with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists of his own.  Shawn Marion had one of those “I’m a first overall fantasy pick” type of nights, ending up with 18 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, and 4 blocks.  It’s tough not to give him the line of the night.  Teammate Amare Stoudemire finished with 25 and Steve Nash had 29 and 6 assists in the Suns’ second straight loss.

So that line of the night?  Dwight Howard.  Career-high 39 points, with 16 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 15-20 from the line.  I sense a theme when Dwight hits free throws like this…
