Dropping Dimes Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick 10 - David West

David West When selecting at the end of the second round, not only do you get to pair this person with a relative stud in the league, but this is also where you capitalize on the settings on which your league is constructed.  With Kobe Bryant falling to third overall, this team already has a solid foundation in… well, all things Kobe.

With this league being of the head-to-head variety, adding a well-rounded big is ideal.  One that will help build off of the scoring foundation while adding some boards and not killing any of your percentages.  I think I have just the man for the job…

Round 2, Pick 10 - David West, PF, New Orleans Hornets

With David West, not only do you have a guy that went to school in Ohio, but you also have one that has been able to improve on his year-over-year stats for the last four seasons.

05-06: 74 G, 0.512 FG, 0.843 FT, 7.4 REB 1.2 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.9 BPG,17.1 PTS
06-07: 52 G, 0.476 FG, 0.824 FT,  8.2 REB,  2.2 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.7 BPG, 18.3 PTS
07-08: 76 G, 0.482 FG, 0.850 FT, 8.9 REB, 2.3 APG,  0.8 SPG, 1.3 BPG, 20.6 PTS

We’re not only into the 20 and 10 range, but West has finally been able to eclipse that block-per-game threshold.  Couple this with the fact that the big man could wind up being the best free throw shooter on your fantasy squad this season and you have the perfect match for Kobe.

The run on big men earlier in the draft does not really allow for a solid center selection without reaching.  Bryant averages more assists than most point guards, so reaching for a point guard risk is not really necessary.  Given that, if you’re able to pair these two plays together on draft day I do not see how you could be disappointed going into the third round.
