Dropping Dimes On The Daily: January 22, 2007

Brandon RoyDropping Dimes On The Daily is all about me looking at the previous night’s performances and mentioning those that did pretty goodly and those that did pretty badly.  Goodly is a word, right?  Anyway, this will be a quick look around the league, so don’t expect a ton of text, just some daily fantasy basketball goodness!!!  Please note that this is the fantasy basketball section of ElevationMag.com’s Daily Top Picks.  Check it out and see your daily rumors, quotes, headlines, and facts!  But read the fantasy section HERE!
The Fig Cap: The Kansas City Royals may stink, but Brandon Roy’s game definitely does not.

If you know me or have read me enough, you know how much I like Brandon Roy’s game.  Well, look at his performance last night in a win over the Milwaukee Bucks - 28 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the floor, including two treys.  The guaranteed future Rookie of the Year also added nine boards and a couple of steals.  Two words for you: Man. Crush.

In the same game, Earl Boykins scored 28 himself, adding six dimes, five boards, and three triples.  Hopefully you picked up Earl the Squirrel when the infamous Nuggets suspensions were handed down.  OR even picked him up when some unfortunate owners dropped Boykins after he was traded.  If he’s available, pick him up.  However, understand that things may change when Mo Williams comes back from injury in a couple weeks.  And even more so when Michael Redd comes back in about a month.  So, what am I saying?  Whether you own him already or will own him after picking him up now, SELL HIGH!!!

Randy Foye started his first NBA game thanks to a Ricky Davis one-game suspension.  Foye scored 25 points including five bombs from downtown.  He’s probably available in some standard leagues, so he’s worth a look, but his fantasy value is limited because of a lack of major minutes as he had last night (37).

Remember a couple of weeks ago when we were all worried about Shawn Marion and his less than Matrix-like rebounding stats?  Well, he has been cleaning the glass well ever since my noted worry and last night is a pretty good exclamation point to ending the worry… 20 rebounds will do that.

It looks like Steven Hunter might have some value as he started last night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs playing 31 minutes.  Hunter double-dipped with 10 points and 15 rebounds and added three blocked shots.  With Chris Webber gone, could start to get some major minutes in the rotation, especially if he continues to play this well.  In a deep league, definitely pick him up.  Otherwise, you play the hunter and keep an eye out on Hunter.  And, yes, you can shoot me for the stupid last sentence.

We expect the dimes from Steve Nash (11 last night), but not from Jason Terry who also had 11 dime drops.  But, the trends from month-to-month bears this out - while Terry’s scoring is dropping, his assists are increasing.  You can probably account this to Josh Howard stepping up his game to an All-Star level.

Brent Barry had his, what seems like a monthly routine, great game as he scored 23 points with five triples.

Catch you on the rebound! (NOTE: If you can come up with a better closing to these things - and I’m sure you could - please feel free to leave a comment below with your genius.  I need it!)
