Dropping Dimes Draft Blog: Round 5, Pick 12

>Richard JeffersonSolid. Reliable. Consistent. For a team with risky picks like Allen Iverson, Gerald Wallace and Josh Smith, it looks like it is a good time to go for some stability. I actually ran into this player at a steakhouse during my last visit to New York City. I guess that is as good a sign as any to pick a player.

Round 5, Pick 12: Richard Jefferson, SF, New Jersey Nets

RJ returned to his efficient ways last year, shooting 49.3% from the field. It seems that he has answered any questions about being able to share the court with what’s his name, used to play for Toronto, wore #15.

On this team, he checks in as the number three scorer behind Ray Ray and the Answer. He is a nice rebounder and passer from the SF position. Though modest in his contribution when it comes to treys and steals, hopefully that is covered by the other players on the roster. RJ also knows how to get to the line, and he certainly complements Ray Allen’s excellence from the line.

Jefferson cut down on his turnovers last year. Obviously with a team that has Iverson, I want to do what I can do stay reasonable close in this category week to week.

How he fits on this team:

In the end, RJ plugs the holes in FG%, FT% and points. Players with slightly more upside or at least more moneyball skills were available, but since I have two players that could dominate in blocks and who do not play center, I think there is enough leeway to take a player of RJ’s ilk. So time to cut down on the porterhouse steaks, RJ, and get into game shape!

By the way, the steakhouse was in Manhattan and is named Wolfgang’s: really good food and definitely a different kind of dining experience. Pretty pricey though, so good think my cousin paid the bill!

Nice up, big surprise, this team needs a center!

Other team members:

1.12. Ray Allen, SG, Seattle Supersonics
2.1. Allen Iverson, PG, Philadelphia 76ers
3.12. Gerald Wallace, SG/SF, Charlotte Bobcats
4.1 Josh Smith, SG/SF, Atlanta Hawks
