Green Hornet's Opening Weekend: $40 Million
Following the $40 million debut of Green Hornet, we at Comix 411 have been fortunate to obtain this recently-leaked memo from [name redacted], a movie executive eager to launch big budget action movies from known properties.
"Thor? Green Lantern? That's yesterday's news! I don't want my tentpole films based on comic books and those graphic novel thingies any more.
"This weekend, the audience for Green Hornet spoke clearly with their wallets about what they really want. And it's movies based on old time radio!
"Apparently there's a goldmine of this radio stuff just waiting for a reboot. My assistant's intern – with the help of his great grandfather and his caregiver - put together a list of potential radio show franchises.

Writers Without Borders: J. A. Konrath, an excellent writer and a smart guy especially on publishing subjects, has some thoughts about the current spiral of Borders bookstores.
Comix: The Forbidden Planet blog introduces me to a new “underground” style newspaper available in London. “The tabloid size is absolutely lovely for reading comics. It’s something our ancestors knew so well, but we’ve forgotten it over the years.” I really want The Comix Reader to succeed, so if you’re living over there, go get one.
Sci-Fi: My old friend Scott Bieser has a new webcomic that he's started called Quantum Vibe. I'm bookmarking it and you should too.

Comic Con International in San Diego is closer than you think. Years ago, I started compiling my own list of convention secrets starting with a great place to go to the bathroom that’s tucked away in a corner, just minutes from the convention floor, and no one seems to know about it. Then I read the list compiled by Tom Spurgeon at The Comics Reporter and I am ashamed of my own ineptitude. If you’re going to the con this summer, you need to read Tom’s list of 135 tips.

Want To Be A Writer?: Of course you do. Who doesn’t? Step into any cocktail party or backyard barbecue and it’s full of people bursting with ideas, if only they can find someone who could take a few minutes to write it all down for them. The real trick is finding places that might be interested in publishing something once it’s all written down. If you feel like writing some stuff down, John Scalzi (the Hugo Award-winning sf author) and Wil Wheaton (yes, that Wil Wheaton) have joined forces to create a writing contest that’s win-win-win for all. Maybe even you.
