Weekend Reading: Breyfogle, Batman, Whedon & Wild Cards

Life With ArchieWelcome to the back to school edition of Weekend Reading. Here are a few things better than homework, unless your homework includes classes at MoCCA.

Everything’s Archie: Norm Breyfogle is interviewed by Matthew Price over at NewsOK. The subject? Archie and the gang at Riverdale.

George R.R. Martin: You know what’s coming up in November, back in print after a decade? Wild Cards 1, expanded with new stuff.

Witchblade: Author Paul Bishop has a favorite Forgotten Book. It’s the Witchblade tie-in novels based on the short-lived TV series with Yancy Butler that was based on the Top Cow comic book without Yancy Butler.

Batman Under the Red Hood: SF Signal has a review of the just-released DVD.

Donald E. Westlake: Whether writing under his own name or his many pseudonyms, Westlake is one of my favorite crime-and-caper writers.

If you’ve been enjoying the Darwyn Cooke adaptations of his Parker novels (written as Richard Stark), then you might be interested in reading more about the Parker novels. The Rap Sheet has the skinny.

Joss Whedon: Apparently he lost his TV mojo after Fox canceled Firefly.

Big Boy: Scoop has the story of how Big Boy became the iconic burger salesman. I’m hungry now.

01:Second: Over at Go Home Paddy, John Walsh interviews Mark Siegel the creator of SailorTwain and Editorial Director of First Second Books.

The Damned: Author James Reasoner likes The Damned: Three Days Dead, the collection of the first five issues of the Oni Press series by Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt. “Bunn’s script is fast-paced and funny in some places, grotesque in others, and touching in still others.”

Wizard World Chicago: This is the kind of convention reporting I love: “Wizard had a decade-plus to build relationships with comics companies. Right now, those relationships have deteriorated to the point where companies won’t even head to their biggest show.”

Scheme Comix: This is the kind of thing that makes me wish I lived in London. Terry Hooper reviews an anthology comic that was sponsored by The Arts Trust Scotland.

Now, get back to your homework!
