George MichaelGeorge Michael has been released from hospital 13 days after falling from a moving car.

The 49-year-old singer sustained head injuries when he fell out of a Range Rover at 70mph on the M1 motorway in Hertfordshire, England, on Thursday May 16. After being treated for almost two weeks, George has now been allowed to return home.

“We can confirm that George Michael has been discharged from hospital and continues to rest and recuperate. He is well and thanks everyone for all the messages of support,” a statement released on his official website read.

The “Outside” hitmaker - who lives in Highgate, north London - was seen falling out of the passenger door of the vehicle and motorist Katherine Fox who witnessed the incident revealed she had reversed her car to shield George from passing traffic while waiting for medical assistance: “I saw blood everywhere and a man on the ground. I thought someone had run across the road and been hit. I asked what had gone on and was told he tried to open the car door and shut it again because it wasn't shut properly and apparently fell out at 70mph. I was on the phone to the ambulance and said, 'You'd better come quick. This doesn't look good.'”

George MichaelGeorge Michael is still in hospital after his car accident.

The 49-year-old singer is being kept under medical supervision in a specialist trauma center in London after sustaining head injuries last week when he fell out of a car at 70mph on the M1 motorway in Hertfordshire, England. “Following the traffic accident on Thursday, we can confirm that he is still in hospital. We are keen to stress it's purely as a precaution for observation. He did suffer a couple of bumps and bruises to the head and that's why they are keeping him in - to keep an eye on him. He is doing better. He is making good progress and is looking forward to getting out,” his spokesperson said.

The former Wham! star was a passenger in a silver Range Rover when he fell out of the moving vehicle onto the road at junction 6A, near St Albans. The incident is believed to have happened because he was trying to close the door properly. The lucky pop star narrowly avoided being hit by cars on the dangerous four-lane stretch of motorway, and his friends pulled on to the hard shoulder and ran across two lanes of traffic to help him.

George Michael Seeks Treatment for Anxiety

George MichaelGeorge Michael is seeking treatment for extreme anxiety.

The British singer has been forced to cancel his Australian Symphonica tour dates in November as he has decided to receive professional help for “major anxiety” following his traumatic battle with pneumonia late last year.

The 49-year-old star announced his plans to undergo treatment today after a performance at London's Royal Albert Hall last night.

In a statement, the ex-Wham star said, “I have today announced the cancellation of the shows in Australia which breaks my heart. By way of explanation all I can say at this time is that since last year's illness I have tried in vain to work my way through the trauma that the doctors who saved my life warned me I would experience. They recommended complete rest and the type of post traumatic counselling… Unfortunately I seriously underestimated how difficult this year would be… I was wrong to think I could work my way through the major anxiety that has plagued me since I left Austria last December.”
