Marion Cotillard is Unsure About Charity Work
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Charity,
Marion Cotillard doesn't know if it is "worth" dedicating her time to charity work.
The 36-year-old actress - who is well known for working with organizations such as Greenpeace - is unsure if being a celebrity actually helps the organizations because she cannot dedicate the time necessary to them:
"I've thought a lot about whether it really changes something if I speak for a cause or an organization. Does it help? Is it worth it? Wangari Maathai, Aung San Suu Kyi, Mandela - they change things. But actors and celebrities? I don't know. Maybe it's because I don't give enough time to people I support. Sometimes I feel like I should choose between being an actress and having the life I have and supporting a cause that needs all the time we have."
Marion - who was born in Paris to actor parents - admits she has often struggled in her life to deal with her own anxieties, but in recent years has made the necessary moves to be more accepting of herself. "I had my own world and wasn't very happy. I was not a very sociable kid. That was my personality. I was very sensitive. I've finally made peace with myself. I've met amazing people who gave me the keys to make peace with myself."
Josh Hutcherson Lost Two Uncles to AIDS
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Charity,
Josh Hutcherson has opened up about his heartbreak at having two uncles die from AIDS. The 19-year-old Hunger Games star - who is a staunch campaigner for gay rights - reveals how he never got to meet his homosexual relatives, who were struck down with the disease at the height of the epidemic.
"They were in their early 30s, in great shape, but unfortunately they were taken away from us too soon. Both passed away at about the time I was born," he said.
Josh is set to become the youngest recipient of the Vanguard Award at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles today, following in the footsteps of Hollywood heavyweights including Elizabeth Taylor, Charlize Theron and Janet Jackson, and considers his charity work to be his biggest achievement.
"My mom has always been a big advocate, especially in the gay, lesbian, transsexual and bisexual community so for me it's always been a part of my soul. This is what my family is most proud of and the same for me. Acting is one thing, but actually trying to change the world and the way people think to make people's lives better? That's the stuff I'm most proud of."

Katherine Heigl Donates $1 Million to Animals
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Charity, Kind Acts,
Katherine Heigl has donated $1 million to help animals in Los Angeles.
The Killers actress has pledged the enormous sum to the city as part of a new initiative to get animals spayed and neutered in honor of her late brother Jason Heigl - who died in a car accident in 1986 when he was a high school student.
“I said to my mother, ‘I think it’s a really grace-filled way to honor him.’ My mother began the foundation in his name as a way of creating a legacy for this child of hers that didn’t live long enough to do that himself and he also happened to be a real advocate for animals and children and the repressed so it works out beautifully. It’ll never change how this day feels to us come September 23 every year. It has a significance now, of beauty, a grace to it, that we are grateful for.”
The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation aims to stop the pet population crisis in the area with neutering schemes, but also through its support of training and obedience programs, rescue organisations, ‘no kill shelters,’ pet adoption schemes and programs which help move homeless animals away from shelters which intend to put them down.

Betty White is a Calendar Girl for Animals
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Television, Kind Acts, Photos,
Continuing her path to world domination (one photo shoot at a time!), Betty White is now a calendar model.
The 88 year-old actress, whose show Hot in Cleveland was recently awarded a second season, is the star of a 2011 calendar that features various photos of White, including archival and newer ones co-starring shirtless, chiseled men (pictured to the right).
The calendar, priced at $12.99, will go on sale in September and benefit the Morris Animal Foundation, where White serves as a trustee.
We love Betty, but will you shell out $13 to put her on your wall (for the sake of the animals!), or is it just too much?

VIDEO: VIP Breakdown Interviews Kevin Bacon
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Charity, Videos,
Followers of VIP Breakdown, you are now (kinda) two degrees away from Kevin Bacon.
We recently had an opportunity to speak to the well-connected actor about his pair of wins for the HBO movie Taking Chance and his acceptance speech at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. We also got his thoughts about possibly acting with wife Kyra Sedgwick on her show The Closer and his feelings about his daughter (Sosie Bacon) joining the business.
Additionally, we had a chance to learn about the “Pepsi Refresh Project.” Bacon - who was honored with the Joel Siegel Award for his philanthropy work through his Six Degrees foundation - has teamed up with the company to support others wanting to have a positive impact. Through 2010, people can vote on and/or submit charitable ideas that are in need of funding. By year’s end, Pepsi will award more than $20 million in grants for ideas that “will refresh the world and lead to positive change.”

Madonna, Beyonce Knowles and Tom Cruise joined George Clooney in yesterday’s telethon to raise funds for victims of the Haiti earthquake.
The telethon - broadcast from Los Angeles, New York and London - saw more than 140 stars come together to perform and raise funds to aid relief in the Caribbean state, which has been struck by two huge earthquakes in the last two weeks, leaving hundreds of thousands dead.
“This is a tragedy that reaches across all borders, all boundaries. It demands our attention, our help and our compassion. The Haitian people need help. They need to know that they are not alone. They need to see that we still care,” George said.
While Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Coldplay, Rihanna, Sting, Stevie Wonder and Sheryl Crow all performed, addresses were made from ex-US president Bill Clinton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman and Samuel L. Jackson. Manning the telephones were some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, including director Steven Spielberg and actors Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Julia Roberts, Mel Gibson, Reese Witherspoon and Penelope Cruz.
The two-hour broadcast collected money via the internet and text message as well as phone donations, and is expected to raise over $150 million.
Shakira Has Incompetent Parents
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Charity, Kind Acts, Rumors,
Shakira thought her parents were “the most incompetent business people in the world” when she was eight.
The “She Wolf” singer said she was upset and frightened when her father, a jeweler, went bankrupt and had to sell most of the family possessions when she was a child. The experience did, however, lead them give her a lesson she has never forgot about true poverty.
“I couldn’t believe my parents! I thought they were the most incompetent business people in the world! And I was so upset. My dad and my mom took me to the park that day, where all the kids who were orphans are sniffing glue to deal with the tragedy of their own lives and hunger and the solitude of their lives. Little kids, like my age, sniffing glue and barefoot. They just wanted to show me another reality that was much worse than mine. Those images of those kids left a huge impression.”
Shakira, who found fame in her native Columbia as a teenager, later went on to establish the Pies Descalzos Foundation, a charity which sets up special schools for underprivileged children across her home country. She is also a UNICEF Goodwill ambassador and regularly performs at benefit concerts around the globe.
In February she also opened a new $6 million school in her hometown Barranquilla sponsored by herself and the Pies Descalzos Foundation.
