Jessica Simpson in beer ad

Still attempting to make her new image seem genuine, has signed on to endorse a Texas-brewed beer. People, it just doesn’t get much more country than that.

Simpson is set to be the new face of Stampede Light Plus, as made by the Dallas-based Stampede Brewing Company. Other than the reflected glory and ability to say she’s really a country gal, Jessica will also get a 15% share of the brewing company.

In a statement, Simpson said she is “always looking for ways to diversify my portfolio with good ideas and good people.”

I don’t doubt the truth of this. From what I’ve seen, Simpson is willing to endorse anything. Let us not forget she did a series of TV spots with the Muppets for a popular pizza chain. These days, Simpson is spending her time completely changing her image. Bubbly pop star one day - down-to-earth country gal the next. She’s almost obsessively distancing herself from everything that made her famous.

Honestly, I liked her better when she was having blonde moments in front of TV cameras.

So, why this change? Why has the former Newlywed gone from the crowd to ranchers with a thirst for hops? Why is Jessica Simpson reinventing herself…and is it going to work?

Born in Texas, Simpson has often alluded that she’s trying to get back to her roots - thus the reason for the switch from pop to country. Traditionally, her move is a little strange - it’s much more common for country acts to break into pop music.

Simpson performed in her new role as country singer for the first time in July, receiving mixed reviews. Many reports said that Jessica was booed and one re-telling even had her in tears, though Simpson fans rallied to her defense and tell a different tale.

The Jessica Simpson country album, Do You Know, comes out September 9.

Forum Discussion

I think both Jessica Simpson and Carrie Underwood are great people, but a rivalry? Come on! I read on Perez Hilton the other day that someone accidentally thought Jessica Simpson was Carrie Underwood, haha, that would be pretty embarrassing, but Jessica Simpson hasn't really done much in 2008 with her career so far.
