Red Carpet Fashion: 2010 VMA Awards

MTV VMA Award

MTV’s 2010 were held at the famous Nokia Theater on Sunday night, and the cable channel rolled out miles of white carpet for the event.

The theme was old Hollywood glam, the stage set was done in pristine white and all the industry celebs came out to strut their stuff. Now, the important part: what did they wear while they were doing it?

Explore the best, the worst and the most confusing VMA fashions of the night after the jump…

Lady Gaga

was truly the Queen of the white carpet in a regal, red and gold Alexander McQueen gown. She arrived with a full entourage of military professionals, a large plume of gold feathers and extra clothes to make her famous costume changes possible. Gaga was on fire well before she scored the night’s big award: before she could complete her white carpet tour, she was awarded two statues.

Katy Perry

wore a skimpy Marchesa creation that barely hid her goods with black lace. An odd white ruffle helped to provide more modesty, but the asymmetrical design was more off-putting than outrageous. At least Perry’s YSL shoes are truly fabulous, and her custom Russell Brand manicure scored her a lot of close-ups.

Ke$ha, Kesha

Best New Artist nominee made her VMA look with products purchased at a Home Depot…seriously. She strutted her stuff on the white carpet in nothing but a home-crafted garbage bag. She paired this “frock” with a long, disheveled braid and cross earrings that literally looked difficult to wear. I was actually afraid for her ears. The garbage bag, the hair, it all combines to make Ke$ha the worst dressed of the night. So not fabulous.

Easy A’s Emma Stone was adorable and very age-appropriate in a black Pucci minidress that fit her like a glove. She paired the simple ensemble with an electric purple clutch and basic black heels.

We’re not sure where got this track suit-inspired trench (note the white striping on the sleeves), but we’re absolutely in love with the look. She paired the dramatic coat with a silky, feminine white blouse and classic black pant, and she looked like a rock star. Lynch completed her look with soft make-up and pointy black heels. The Emmy-winning actress easily scored best dressed of the night with her Sue Sylvester-like style.
