Naomi Campbell

Move over, Disney. There’s a new mega-corporation getting sued in town. Cadbury, the second-largest confectionary in the world, made the mistake of using Naomi Campbell, indirectly, in an ad campaign. And she’s just not having it.

A new ad featuring their Dairy Milk Bliss Bar has the words “Move over Naomi, there’s a new diva in town” as a tagline. Cute, right? Wrong. According to Campbell, it’s racist.

“I am shocked,” the model overreacted. “It’s upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me, but for all black women and black people as a race. I do not find any humor in this. It’s insulting and hurtful.” She has also stated that she may be pursuing legal action against the company. Possibly she’s being a wee bit dramatic? Follow the jump to see the ad that's causing all the trouble...

Cadbury Dairy Milk Bliss Ad

Operation Black Vote has already called for a boycott on all Cadbury chocolate. A representative for Cadbury said the ad is nothing more than a “light-hearted take on the social pretensions of Cadbury Dairy Milk Bliss.”

Cadbury is owned by Kraft, clearly a non-racist company. After all, don’t they own Oreo as well?

At any rate, the emphasis is on the word “diva,” not on the fact that it’s a chocolate bar. There’s no mention of chocolate in the ad and in fact, the only picture of the bar itself is on the product’s packaging, which is pictured. And who’s to say they weren’t referring to Naomi Judd, originally? Because she’s white? …Isn’t that what’s racist?

What’s really offensive is Miss Campbell’s willingness to compare herself -- indeed, all humans -- with candies. This is how cannibalism catches on, you know.
