After five years together, J & J have come to an end.

Although it seemed as if Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey were in it for the long haul, the two both made surprising announcements via their Twitter accounts today.

“Jenny and I have just ended our 5yr relationship. I’m grateful 4 the many blessings we’ve shared and I wish her the very best! S’okay! ?;^>” Carrey tweeted this afternoon. McCarthy’s message, which was posted shortly thereafter, also included a reference to her ex’s daughter. “Im so grateful for the years Jim and I had together. I will stay committed to Jane and will always keep Jim as a leading man in my heart,” Jenny wrote.

During their time together, the couple shared a number of experiences including the birth of Carrey’s first grandchild, McCarthy’s role in the autism/vaccinations debate and Jim’s weight gain for the Three Stooges film.

“They are grateful for the many blessings they have shared and wish each other the very best,” Carrey’s rep said in a statement.

Despite the sad parting, the 48-year-old actor is apparently trying to see the bright side of things. “Be of good cheer folks! It’s a beautiful world, and we’re all gonna get what we need the most! ?;^>” he added on Twitter.
