Is the Weird Joaquin Phoenix Documentary For Real?

As we’ve been , Oscar-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix purportedly dropped out of movies back in 2009 to focus on his musical career. The career switch has been documented, or at least that’s the claim, by Phoenix’s brother-in-law Casey Affleck.

From the word go, public opinion has been pretty strong that the whole thing was some sort of hoax. Now, Affleck and are actually shopping the project around…and no one’s really figured it out yet.

The documentary is titled I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix. It was screened for a group of could-be distributors earlier this week, and they’re still scratching their heads. One attendee wrote: “Even after seeing the documentary…in a private screening earlier this week, film buyers still aren’t sure of its genuineness.”

Which means, reading between the lines, people aren’t buying it.

Reportedly, the film contains an excessive amount of male full-frontal nudity…more than what you might see in a pornographic movie. One scene allegedly depicts someone defecating on Joaquin Phoenix while he sleeps. Phoenix is depicted in the film “snorting cocaine, ordering call girls, having oral sex with a publicist, treating his assistants abusively and rapping badly.”

Sounds peachy.

To get a small sense of what the movie’s like (because we’re kind of hoping this project is never made available for mass consumption), you can see Joaquin performing in the video above…and you’ll know why the whole thing seems too awful to believe.
