What could possibly be more awkward than marrying the woman who plays your sister on screen? How about divorcing the woman who plays your sister on screen?

After almost two years of marriage, Dexter costars Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter are divorcing. According to a statement, the actors -- who have starred opposite each other for five seasons -- have "been separated for some time."

Although reps for both Michael and Jennifer told EW that the split was amicable, a source told Access Hollywood it was widely known around the set that the two were having problems. TMZ adds that it was Carpenter who was filing to end the marriage.

This news comes just after the Season 5 finale for Dexter. Although Jennifer was present at Sunday night's party in New York, Michael was not.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Hall, 39, had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Days later, the actor -- who was already receiving treatment -- arrived with Carpenter to January's Golden Globes broadcast.

Dexter was recently renewed for a sixth season.
