UPDATE: TMZ reports that Giraldo’s family had pulled him off life support.

Comedian Greg Giraldo, best known to television audiences for his work on Last Comic Standing and the Comedy Central roasts, died today in New Jersey. He was 44 years old.

Giraldo’s passing comes less than a week after he was hospitalized for an accidental overdose. According to friends of the funnyman, he had been taking prescription pills. His death is not being considered a suicide.

After word of Greg’s death circulated, many celebrities turned to Twitter to express their condolences. “Greg Giraldo was a great and funny man,” Jimmy Kimmel wrote. “RIP Greg Giraldo. Belly-laugh hilarious, prolific, good & kind.  A thousand oys can’t express,” Sarah Silverman tweeted.

“There are no words 2 express what a shame it is 2 lose Greg Giraldo,” Lisa Lampanelli, another fixture on the roasts, expressed. “His smart humor was unparalleled & he will be missed for yrs to come.”

A date for Giraldo’s memorial has not yet been announced.
